Video gaming is quite a big thing in Japan and many people suffer from video gaming addictions leading them to drop out of school or employment and become recluses immersing themselves in the virtual world. From there my research became more concerned with the Internet and what it’s implications on how we perceive physical environments are. At the time I was making films with projections onto sculptures and image mapping onto forms. I sent out a proposal with a few pieces of work and they liked it. Six
people were selected for the exhibition. The third year students met up with us all individually to discuss our practice and what they can see us developing as a piece of work. It started from just a video projected on the wall to various sculptures on the floor that were being projection-mapped onto in an arrangement that allowed people to walk through.
W: What does the final piece look like?
Naomi Ellis: I made three sculptures because I wanted it to be a sort of landscape. I wanted to play with the idea of scale and the viewer’s perception; they could have been islands or boulders. I
